Woodbury Elementary and Middle School
This pair of large school rain gardens protect Battle Creek Lake from runoff pollution.
The Woodbury Elementary and Middle School site was one of six school rain garden projects funded in part by a $150,000 Clean Water Fund grant. Our goal was to manage rainwater runoff at schools in priority areas of the watershed while engaging local communities in a shared learning experience. This project provides needed pollinator habitat and reduces the volume of polluted runoff that drains into Battle Creek Lake.
The site features two rain gardens, one installed by a contractor and another planted by District staff, volunteers and students. Over the course of three days in October 2017, more than 500 students helped to plant 1,433 native plants!
