Wakefield Lake

This 23-acre lake is adjacent to a popular Maplewood city park.

Wakefield Lake is located in Maplewood and primarily used for shoreline fishing, picnicking and aesthetic viewing. It is bordered by parkland owned by the City of Maplewood on the north and east sides of the lake. The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources Fishing in the Neighborhood program cites Wakefield Lake as a good place for kids to fish in the eastern Twin Cities metropolitan area. Public access is available in Wakefield Park, although there is no boat launch.

The following graphs show the growing season average measurements in Wakefield Lake for chlorophyll-a, total phosphorus and secchi transparency. Wakefield Lake is sampled for water quality parameters every two weeks from May through September. Wakefield Lake was listed as impaired for excess nutrients in 2002.
