Mary Fitzgerald

Mary joined RWMWD in 2019. She holds a BS in Environmental Sciences, Policy, and Management from the University of Minnesota Twin Cities. Mary’s role includes reviewing permits, and leading the District’s construction site and stormwater facilities inspection programs. Mary is the first established staff liaison for DEIA-related efforts within RWMWD, leading an internal staff workgroup and spearheading initiatives to advance equity and inclusion at the watershed district level. She also is an instructor with the University of Minnesota’s Erosion and Stormwater Management Certification Program, teaching Construction Installer and Regulatory Enforcement. Mary was awarded the Deborah L. Swackhamer Early Career Award at the Minnesota Water Resources Conference in 2026.
