Tanners Lake Wetland
Modifications to a nearby wetland help bring cleaner water to Tanners Lake.
The District’s 1986 management plan identified Tanners Lake as a priority resource and called for protection and improvement of its water quality. The plan identified the wetland north of the lake as a prime resource for improving the quality of stormwater from the largest contributing drainage area.
We found the wetland was sloping, and most of the stormwater was running through a channel in the middle without dispersing through the wetland vegetation. The project design included construction of two low head (2-3 feet high) permeable weirs to disperse the flows across the wetland, along with an upstream and downstream sediment basin. The project resulted in a 40 percent reduction in phosphorus loads to Tanners Lake.
